However, the important industrial and economic dimension of sport has not been clearly reflected in the activities and programs of R & D Europe. The reason for this may lie in the difficulties of defining the sector and the limited trust placed in the R + D + I aimed at developing industry sport. This means that there is very little awareness of innovation in the industrial sector of sport in Europe and little connection between sports research and innovation.
In Spain, we must go back to 1998 to find the first publication of R & D & I Sports. This is the White Paper R & D in Sport, published between CSD and IBV and which, with a wide range of industry experts, developed the main lines of I + D + I and the accompanying measures for the development of research in the sector.
Since then, little by little, the financing of R + D + I sport has grown. In fact, the good results obtained in the Strategic Action on Sport and Physical Activity (2005-2008), the National Plan V, have led to its inclusion in the Strategic Action on Health, Sport and Physical Activity (2008-2011) of Current VI National Plan, including the Sports Science in the Sub-Project of Fundamental Research unguided.
